EFF Report on the FBI's Investigative Data Warehouse (IDW)
By September 2008, the IDW had grown to nearly one billion (997,368,450) unique documents. The Library of Congress, by way of comparison, has about 138 million (138,313,427) items in its collection.
The rest of the report goes into detail about what the FBI actually keeps inside of this “everything bucket” & the infrastructure the FBI uses to power it. I’ll probably be up for half a day just reading through the documents the EFF obtained using the FoIA.
(Kudos to Ars Technica for the story.)
