re: Geeks ♥ Google
Would they really fall apart? Or is it more likely that they could gradually add more features and policies that do screw around with search results, and it wouldn’t matter because most consumers wouldn’t notice or care and most geeks unconditionally love and defend everything Google does?
Google will only get Geek ♥ Love so long as they continue to generally not suck. Even if the changes are gradual, people would notice if they’re not finding what they want & some of us do notice that now (though generally for me at least, it usually doesn’t exist or it’s not or no longer in Google’s index id est dead websites).
Real-time search, as it exists now & judging from what I’ve seen is a complete step in the wrong direction. I get the general idea & I get that it’s not supposed to just be Twitter results, but journal & news posts as they’re posted, but generally that just boils down to Twitter results right now & those are crammed in a giant ‘OneBox’ either at the top or the middle of the page. If it works out & turns out for the better for Google’s results, then that will be a win, but if it doesn’t then they’ll have to kill it off or completely change it instead of letting it ruin the main search results if they want to hold onto Geek ♥ Love.
